About the Dish
"Pastel de tres leches", Spanish for "three milk cake", is a sponge cake that has soaked up three different kinds of milk: condensed, evaporated, and heavy cream.
It is a great dessert to end this meal on!
How to Prepare
Before we can cook this delectable dessert, we need to gather the necessary ingredients!
Ingredients
Note: All measurements in this recipe will be presented in imperial units. You may need to convert to other units if necessary.
- The "Tres Leches"
- One 14 ounce can of sweetened, condensed milk
- One 12 ounce can of evaporated milk
- 1 cup of heavy whipping cream
- Cake Ingredients
- 6 medium eggs, separated
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 0.5 cup milk
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Grease a 10x15-inch baking dish.
- Make the cake:
- Using an electric mixer, beat the egg whites in a large mixing bowl until stiff peaks form.
- Gradually beat in sugar until mixture is glossy.
- Beat in egg yolks individually.
- Beat in the flour, about 1 tablespoon at a time.
- Add the milk, baking powder, and vanilla extract.
- Beat mixture and then pour into the prepared baking dish.
- Bake the cake for about 25 minutes.
- Check cake is done by sticking a toothpick in. If toothpick comes out clean, remove from oven and let cake cool for 15 minutes.
- Make the "Tres Leches":
- Combine the condensed milk, evaporated milk, and heavy cream in a blender.
- Pulse several times until well-blended.
- Pour the "tres leches" over finished cake.
- Cover cake and refrigerate at least 1 hour until cake is cold and all liquid has been absorbed.
