About the Dish

"Pastel de tres leches", Spanish for "three milk cake", is a sponge cake that has soaked up three different kinds of milk: condensed, evaporated, and heavy cream.

It is a great dessert to end this meal on!

How to Prepare

Before we can cook this delectable dessert, we need to gather the necessary ingredients!

Ingredients

Note: All measurements in this recipe will be presented in imperial units. You may need to convert to other units if necessary.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Grease a 10x15-inch baking dish.
  3. Make the cake:
    1. Using an electric mixer, beat the egg whites in a large mixing bowl until stiff peaks form.
    2. Gradually beat in sugar until mixture is glossy.
    3. Beat in egg yolks individually.
    4. Beat in the flour, about 1 tablespoon at a time.
    5. Add the milk, baking powder, and vanilla extract.
    6. Beat mixture and then pour into the prepared baking dish.
  4. Bake the cake for about 25 minutes.
  5. Make the "Tres Leches":
    1. Combine the condensed milk, evaporated milk, and heavy cream in a blender.
    2. Pulse several times until well-blended.
  6. Pour the "tres leches" over finished cake.
  7. Cover cake and refrigerate at least 1 hour until cake is cold and all liquid has been absorbed.
